Barack Obama pretty much built his campaign to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States on the back of a clever Internet bankrolling campaign. Now, as the voting date fast approaches, could bringing the iPhone into the election battleground be the smartest tech move Obama 2.0 has made?
From his taunting of
John Lamer McCain over a self-confessed
computer illiteracy, through being hailed as the
Chief Twit
on Twitter, Obama 2.0 has been a vocal supporter of new technology.
Being crowned Chief Twit is not as derogatory as you might imagine,
in fact Barack Obama has firmly stamped his IT credentials on this
Presidential campaign.
There really cannot be any doubt that when it comes to the Internet,
for example,
Obama has already won that particular battle
with his usage of Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and the web to raise
money and motivate an electorate.
Now, in an innovative twist, Obama is moving his campaign onto the
iPhone with the
Obama '08 application.
The iPhone software is being touted as a "comprehensive connection to
the heart of Barack Obama and Joe Biden's campaign" which gives the
user "instant access to Barack's positions on important issues, as well
as local and national campaign news as it happens."
But this is more than just another Obama hype fest, this software does
some clever things which are designed to motivate supporters into doing
more and helping drive votes towards the Democratic candidate come
November 4th.
This is Obama 2.0 doing what he does best and exploiting any given IT opportunity in order to carve a bigger percentage of the politcal supporter pie than John McCain.
So what does the iPhone application do that could help move Obama 2.0 into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave? More on page 2...
