Nokia new N96 launches – is it the iPhone’s biggest threat?

Your IT - Mobility

Nokia showed journalists its new TV commercial, which you can see at YouTube, while another N96 TV commercial that is loaded onto the N96 can be seen at this YouTube video.

Nokia says its advertising campaign will start in two weeks time and will be “360 degrees”, reaching TV, cinema, online, outdoors and in joint campaigns with operators.

There’s plenty more to discover about the N96 and once a review model arrives and I’ve had the chance to further explore you’ll read about it here at iTWire.

But in short, the N96 delivers an integrated, quality, easy to use digital device that takes everything about the N95 and makes it a whole lot better.

Watch out Apple – the world’s biggest mobile phone manufacturer isn’t about to cede control, and Nokia hasn’t even launched its supposed “Tube” touch-screen phone yet either which will only add yet another string to Nokia’s highly competitive bow.

All of that said, I’m as big an iPhone fan as I am a Nokia N95 and now N96 fan, with all the N96 improvements very welcome indeed, highlighting many iPhone deficiencies even down to the non-removable battery.

The fight is on, and Nokia has now lain down its strongest hand ever onto the table.

The other two new N-Series models, the N85 and N76 will then arrive early next year for a Q1 2009 launch, with the mysterious “Tube” touch model still getting set to spoil Apple’s iParty, while Apple could still yet pull an iPhone 3G 32GB model out of its pre-Christmas hat to spoil things right back.

Whichever way you look at it, the “golden age” of handheld converged nirvana is here and waiting for you to jump in and take part, on virtually any modern smartphone, with even better still yet to come.

However, as of right now, the N96 package taken in total is certainly designed to be very hard to beat, with upcoming new N96 owners set for quite a tasty cyber treat!
