There is no doubt that RIM is correct in its claim that
mobile social networking is on the rise. Analysts are forecasting that
more than 800 million people around the world will be accessing social
networks through their mobile phones by 2012.
That's up from just 82 million last year according to eMarketer.
But how many of them will be accessing MySpace is relevant question
number one. Quickly followed by how many of them will be accessing
MySpace using their BlackBerry.
Research In Motion insists that by empowering MySpace and BlackBerry
users with real-time access to their global network "MySpace and RIM
are responding to users demanding a mobile experience that matches
their busy lifestyle."
Only time will tell.
Meanwhile, from October this year, CrackBerry
addicts will be able to enjoy a full MySpace messaging interface which
includes comments, bulletins and messaging. Real time status and mood
updates will also be pushed to the BlackBerry handset.
Other features include the ability to find, add, and respond to friend
requests on the move. Camera integration and optimized photo management
will also be included to allow users to snap, sort and upload pictures
anytime and anywhere.
