Tip three: sliding caps. Another keyboard related
productivity tip is to tap and hold the shift key and then 'slide' your
finger to the letter you want capitalised which saves a click. Again,
doesn't sound much when you read it on-screen, but when you start using
it in anger you wonder how you ever managed before.
Tip four: save battery life. Ah, yes, something
that every iPhone 3G owner will want to do, considering how power
hungry it can be with all the added functionality gizmos up and
running. If you are running a little low on battery power, then when
you unlock the handset you can fool the ambient light sensor (located
above the earpiece) into thinking you are in a dark place by holding
your thumb over it.
Why bother doing this? Because the iPhone 3G only uses the ambient
light sensor once per session, and by pretending you are in a dark
environment it will power up with a less bright screen and conserve
some energy for you.
Tip five: save some more battery life. OK, I admit that this one is
more than a little radical, considering you probably bought that iPhone
because it had '3G' in the name. But how often do you actually, really,
honestly need that 3G connection speed? Chances are the truthful answer
is sometimes.
The rest of the time you can save a fair amount of power by turning it
off and reverting to EDGE (2G) or GPRS connectivity. Switch 3G back on
for big downloads, video streaming and the like. Oh, and many users
have reported that turning the location services functionality off
until your really need it also works wonders for battery life.
Tip six: force it to quit. Sticking with turning things off, how do you
get a buggy application that has frozen to quit? Simple, just press and
hold the Home button for around six seconds and the job's a good one.
How can you get a bigger keyboard, or a Caps lock key? Read page 3 for these and two other great tips...
