Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Speech Mashups would do nothing to meet user demand for voice dialling on the iPhone, a feature that is commonly found in simpler and less expensive handsets. SpeechCloud Voice Dialler, available free from the App Store, aims to fill the gap, but opinions are polarised about the quality of recognition. Another frequent criticism is that it merely finds the (hopefully correct) contact from the address book and that the amount of interaction required with the iPhone means it does not deliver hands-free dialling.
In related news, AT&T says its iPhone 3G sales during the first 12 days following the launch on July 11 were nearly double those achieved in 2007 when the original iPhone arrived.
AT&T chairman and chief executive officer Randall Stephenson said "In the days following our exclusive US launch of this new device, powered by the nation’s fastest 3G wireless network, customer response has been everything we had anticipated and more. This strengthens our wireless business, and it reinforces our positive view of the opportunities ahead for AT&T and the industry."
AT&T's wireless data revenue has grown by 52 percent on a year-on-year basis, with more than 18 percent of wireless subscribers using an integrated device such as an iPhone.
