Want an iPhone 3G on launch day? Despite the usual claims of low stock or no stock, the truth is there should be no problem in getting hold of one. If you want a Pay As You Go handset, however, then you will need to send a letter to Father Christmas it seems.
Last month
iTWire revealed
how much a PAYG iPhone 3G would cost in the UK after O2 briefly posted
details on its website before quickly removing them again. The pricing
was replaced by a statement which promised that "iPhone is coming soon
for Pay & Go" and "Just register your interest opposite and we'll
drop you a line in early July to tell you what you need to do to be one
of the first to get your hands on the new 3G iPhone."
What O2 did not say was exactly how long you
would have to wait to get your hands on the PAYG version of the Jesus
Phone on Steroids.
Carphone Warehouse has, however,
revealed the expected time of arrival for non-contract
plan handsets.
Unfortunately for those customers who simply assumed that PAYG iPhone
3G units would be available, well on the 11th July as you might expect,
they simply assumed wrong. It turns out that neither the O2 Store,
Apple Store nor Carphone Warehouse will be bringing you your Pay As You
Go iPhone. In fact you will have to rely on Santa instead.
Buried within a statement released by the Carphone Warehouse earlier
this week regarding the available tariffs for the iPhone 3G on
contract, was a brief mention of the PAYG version. "The iPhone 3G will
also be available on Pay as you go at The Carphone Warehouse in time
for the Christmas period" it says.
What do O2 have to say about this? Read on to find out...
