People lining up for iPhone 3G in New York already?!

Your IT - Mobility

A news report shows people already lining up for the iPhone 3G’s launch on July 11 at the New York store, with the first in line being a man, woman and their baby, hoping to set a record for the longest time in line. But will they tough it out or is it all a hoax?

Gear Diary has photos of people already lining up at Apple’s 5th Avenue Store in New York, with camping gear, food and more to keep them sheltered and fed while waiting for July 11.

Although there is doubt as to whether the man, woman and baby will truly stay in line over the next few days, even if they do decide to leave early, there’ll no doubt be others ready and waiting to take their place.

One does have to wonder how safe it is for a baby to be out there for several days even though there’s supposed to be camping gear and the like.

At least there’s more than one person in the group so the spot in line can be saved when the inevitable need to find a toilet, get more food, get nappies or dispose of rubbish becomes necessary.

The trio aren’t the only ones reported to be there, if you look at the photos at the Gear Diary site you’ll see quite a few people there already, with 10 reported in Gear Diary’s article – no doubt there are more there by now!

Gear Diary received its report from their “man on the stree” Wayne Schulz who said people had begun lining up since the morning of the 4th of July.

They told the police and security guards of their desire to set a “record” for the amount of time waiting in line. If only the prize was a free iPhone, but at least they’ll get plenty of media attention over the next few days if they successfully tough it out and make it all the way to July 11.
