And that's it, apart from the usual register your interest link.
Could this be the second gaff by O2 in the space
of a couple of days? No sooner had
we reported that a staff member was
apparently telling customers the iPhone 3G would be available as early
as 7am on the launch day, comes this pricing faux pa.
Now the conspiracy theorist in me says that it is less gaff and more
marketing exercise. After all, everyone and their auntie knows that you
cannot post something on the Internet, however briefly, without it
getting cached and tagged somewhere.
More to the point, everyone involved with the marketing of the iPhone
3G knows that you cannot mention PAYG pricing for a handset that is due
to launch in a couple of weeks without getting some excellent press
coverage.
The whole thing stinks of some very clever guerilla marketing to me.
Still, even if it was just the office junior making a
fundamental error and hitting the publish button before engaging the
brain, I don't care. Even if the pricing has yet to be confirmed by
Apple and O2. Even if all that is true, we do know have a pretty darn
good idea of what a PAYG iPhone 3G handset is going to cost in the UK.
