UK consumers looking to be first in line for the new Apple iPhone 3G had better set the alarm clock nice and early. Word on the street is that O2 stores will start selling them at 7am on the 11th July, but at what cost?
First things first, this is just a rumour rather than a confirmed and
signed in blood fact. Heck, it first appeared on the
MacRumors.com
forum after all.
But that does not mean it might not be true.
Certainly it would make sense to buck the 'make them queue up until
6pm' evening launch trend that we have got used to here in the UK. A
great bit of marketing potential wrapping up the iPhone 3G launch as
being part of the great British breakfast.
O2, the sole network provider for the iPhone 3G at launch, are saying nothing.
However, that does not appear to be the case of the loose lipped
employee at an O2 Store in the Midlands region of England who kick
started the whole rumour mill off by being helpful and answering the
questions a potential customer had.
That customer just happened to be 'Johnpartridge' a regular contributor
to the MacRumors forum. He asked about the availability of accessories
on the day of the launch, and was passed to a helpful chap who
apparently revealed the following important points:
