3G iPhone pics dubbed REAL by TUAW

Those unofficial Apple weblog scallywags have thrown the real cat among the fake pigeons to declare Engadget’s 3G iPhone pic “real”, while still hiding behind the rumour tag. And could there be an iPhone 2.0 firmware delay?!

Remember that black 3G iPhone pic that people first thought was real, then said it was just a replacement black iPhone case purchased from Hong Kong?

The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) now claims that this pic – seen over at Engadget - really IS a the back of a 3G iPhone after all!

But, in a shock of major proportions, TUAW claims that the WWDC might not see the release of the official iPhone 2.0 firmware on June 9 after all!

The iPhone 2.0 firmware will obviously be released, but the word is now that it will come in late June or perhaps early July, with TUAW saying that this is because of “Apple's deal with the cell carriers -- currently, Apple has to give the cell carriers a "first look" at the new firmware before it can ship; normally this takes around 1-2 weeks.”

TUAW also claims that, despite iPhone’s 2.0 firmware going “gold master” this week, the phone companies still need their 1-2 weeks for “testing”, and if nothing needs changing, it will be released to the public, but... if there are issues Apple will need to make changes, and send those changes back to the carriers for further last minute testing.

So... who knows whether any of this is real, or not? TUAW is “unofficial”, after all, so perhaps the WWDC won’t quite go to Steve Jobs’ initial plan.

Nevertheless, the iPhone 2.0 firmware will clearly still take centre stage at the WWDC. The beta firmware is obviously already in the hands of developers, and if Apple isn’t ready to release, they clearly won’t.

iPhone users have waited this long for 2.0 firmware to arrive, what’s an extra couple of weeks? Sure, some will moan and complain, but in the end, it will make little difference and Apple will still sell millions of iPhones this year.
