Well, as you can imagine, there wasn’t too much that could be said, presumably not without annoying the crunchy Applesters who gatekeep all the iPhone information closely to their once multi-coloured chests.
It appears that “interesting’s” concerns were unfounded, for Vodafone is still firmly in the iPhone sales race, or at least will be... “later this year”.
Our friendly Vodafone spokesperson responded that:
“I've looked into it and your reader's comments are accurate - the Vodafone website was refreshed on Friday 16/5 and the iPhone content was removed at that time. Vodafone has decided to postpone the preregistration process until we are able to give customers a clearer indication of the iPhone launch date and product specifications. I'll keep you posted.”
I tried calling the spokesperson to ensure it was ok to publish these comments but couldn’t get through.
The comments don’t mention anything about 3G iPhones or specific launch times, so there is (theoretically) nothing there that could possibly cause Apple to lose its crunch. So... there you go.
Vodafone has simply removed the iPhone from its Australian front page for now. It may well have been at Apple’s request, that wasn’t confirmed, but whether it was or wasn’t, it’ll certainly be back.
“Later this year”. :-)
