Jajah updates iPhone calling service

Your IT - Mobility

Web-based callback operator Jajah has put a new face on its service for iPhone and iPod touch users.

Jajah provides low-cost calling by letting users specify their own number (typically by signing into their Jajah account) and that of the party they wish to call. Jajah then places a call connecting both numbers. The cost savings can be especially significant when making overseas calls.

The Jajah iPhone web application has been updated with an iPhone-style keypad and address book.

The web application also works with an iPod touch providing the user specifies the phone number on which they will take the call. Although the touch has Wi-Fi and web capabilities, it lacks a microphone.

While Jajah's per-minute rates are lower than most regular carriers, they are higher than those available from some VoIP and calling card providers. However, the company does offer free calls between members in selected countries. This generally applies only to fixed lines, but mobiles are included in the continental US, Canada, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand.
