Watch out, iPhone: Nokia launches new v20 N95 firmware

Your IT - Mobility

Mac users who own the N95, rejoice! I was very happy and surprised to find a great Mac and Nokia resource for the N95 at Nokia’s web site.

It shows you how to easily sync your N95 with iTunes, iPhoto, iCal, the Address book, install software for the N95 through your Mac and more. The most important thing you still can’t do is to update the firmware through  a Mac, but at least Nokia has made a great effort towards much better support for the Mac, and we can only hope Nokia will do more and we wholeheartedly encourage them to do so.

So, the N95 gets a much needed firmware upgrade that takes what was a great phone with a few small flaws into a far better, more capable and more responsive phone, showing that, while this level of update for the N95 has taken some time, Nokia cares about their users and is regularly updating firmware for a whole range of their phones on a relatively regular basis – if you have a Nokia phone and have never updated its firmware you should investigate it and do it!

It also shows Nokia is up to the challenge of the Apple iPhone, and high-end phones from competitors such as Sony Ericsson, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Palm, Blackberry and Windows Mobile smartphones.

I’ve read rumours that this could be the last update for the N95. I hope that’s not true, and that Nokia continues updating this phone where they can for at least another year, especially as more user feedback on the new firmware comes through and users report their experiences.

Until then, the v20 firmware is a must-download update – get it now and fall in love with your N95 all over again!
