You can find out if your model N95 has been updated using the Nokia PC Suite software. Apparently only the original N95 model has been updated so far, some later N95 models that came before the N95 8GB are reportedly still yet to receive the v20 firmware update.
You can download the latest release version of
Nokia’s PC Suite (6.8.15) or you can try, if you're adventurous, Nokia’s great new
NSeries PC Suite 2.0 beta. It seems to seems to crash on occasion but still keeps on working, and is a much improved, more stylish and more powerful sync and backup solution that will hopefully come out of beta soon as a fully released product.
Adventurous users should try the beta, but if that’s not you, then stick with the original PC Suite – either will allow you to backup your phone with the content copier and synchronise your data with your computer, and then download and install the new v20 firmware.
It’s important to note that installing new firmware wipes all the data and installed software from your phone. If you have installed a lot of third party software, whether free or paid, you will need to re-install this after the firmware has been updated. If you have installed a lot of software this will take some time.
I experienced problems when updating to v20 firmware using the new Nseries PC Suite 2.0 beta.
PC Suite 2.0 beta needs to be re-installed it to get it to work properly. Then, during installation, I received an error that stated: “Error 1905.module HRESULT -2147220472. Contact your support personnel”.
Checking this in Google showed that I just needed to click ‘ok’ and things would proceed as per normal, which they then did, and after which I was able to successfully download and install the new v20 firmware. Nseries PC Suite 2.0 is still in beta, after all, so this is likely the reason why.
Clearly Nokia needs to ensure that synchronisation and backup always ‘just work’, and so while it was a bit disconcerting to have to go through these difficulties in updating, we did get it to work and there is a new ‘2.0’ version coming out, for PC’s at least, after all.
So, what about that N95 Mac support I was talking about? That and the conclusion is on page 4... Please read on!
