A new version of Nokia's well-regarded N95 handset (or "multimedia computer" as the company prefers to describe it) provides compatibility with US 3G HSDPA networks.
Other improvements include assisted GPS (A-GPS) for faster navigational fixes from the built-in Nokia Maps application, 124MB of operational RAM memory in addition to the 1G microSD memory card and the 160M of internal memory, and a higher capacity battery.
"With the addition of North American High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) compatibility, the Nokia N95 brings high-speed data transfer as well as a range of industry-leading multimedia ingredients together for North American consumers in one open device," said William Plummer, a VP at Nokia North America.
"The addition of several updates to improve the speed and performance for North American customers means that the best just got even better."
Nokia previously offered US customers the European version of the N95, which was not compatible with US 3G networks but could be used with EDGE, WCDMA and Wi-Fi networks.
The new model should be available in September for $US699.
