iPhone activated via iTunes

Your IT - Mobility

Now we know why Apple wanted would-be iPhone buyers to open accounts at the iTunes Store - Apple and AT&T have teamed to allow the activation of a new iPhone via iTunes software running on a Mac or PC.

"Users will be able to activate their new iPhone in the comfort and privacy of their own home or office, without having to wait in a store while their phone is activated," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

"iPhone's user-driven activation is another example of how AT&T and Apple have partnered to bring innovative new features to our customers," said Randall Stephenson, chairman and CEO, AT&T. "iPhone’s innovative activation and sync is just one example of how this is going to be a real industry game-changer."

iPhone goes on sale in the US at 6pm this Friday, June 29. Prices start at $US499, plus a $US36 activation fee and a two-year service plan with a minimum cost of $US59.99 per month including unlimited data and mobile-to-mobile calling.
