Apple plugs QuickTime vulnerability

Your IT - Home IT

Apple has released its first security update for 2007, addressing the QuickTime vulnerability that kicked off the Month of Apple Bugs project.

A flaw in QuickTime for Mac OS X and Windows meant a specially crafted RTSP URL would cause a buffer overflow, potentially leading to the execution of arbitrary (and possibly malicious) code.

The update performs additional validation of such URLs.

Mac users can download and install the update via the Software Update utility, or from Apple Updates.

The Windows version of the update mentioned in Apple's bulletin did not appear to be available at the time of writing. That said, Windows users can right-click the QuickTime icon in the system tray and select "Check for QuickTime Updates" to fetch and install the latest components.
