Volunteers patch iChat vulnerability

Your IT - Home IT

The iChat vulnerability identified over the weekend by the Month of Apple Bugs project has been patched by William Carrel, a leading member of the MoAB Fixes group.

The patch is contained in the group's latest release, which also includes an improved version of the Java GIF patch (originally issued the previous day) which now corrects Java Virtual Machines started by Firefox as well as by Safari.

So far, Apple has not issued any updates to permanently fix the issues identified by the Month of Apple Bugs. All but one of the third-party applications targeted by the project - Colloquy, OmniWeb and VLC - have already been updated by their respective developers, and new versions of Rumpus and Transmit are expected shortly.
