Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
The Venice Project, a streaming video service being developed by Skype co-founders Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom which has been in Beta for several months, has got its official name: Joost, and a new snazzy website: www.joost.com.
Announcing the latest development, CEO Fredrik
de Wahl, said: "While we're still in beta, we hope that Joost will
become synonymous with the best of TV and the best of the Web. We're
working on putting more content on the platform and creating more and
more applications and functionality. For those of you who've already
been [in the beta trial], you can expect to see some of these updates
in the 0.8 release - which is not far away at all."
The number invited to participate in the beta trial has been very
limited to date, but de Wahl promised: "We're going to be sending out
many more beta invitations...We've been somewhat conservative about
expanding our beta - but that's going to change pretty rapidly now."
And the original name? in a posting on the company's blog site, de Wahl
revealed all: "There was a lot of speculation about why we were called
The Venice Project in the first place. The truth is admittedly slightly
less intriguing than the mystery. The 'Venice' of The Venice Project is
not that of gondolas and canals. It's not Venice Beach, California.
It's not even related to the movie. Our 'Venice' was simply the name of
the hotel conference room where we first decided to start this
venture...At that point we really just needed a name."
