Google updates Blogger service

Your IT - Home IT

Google has updated its free Blogger service with new design and privacy options, but the addition of new features also means a fiddly migration process for existing users.

The updated Blogger, which has been in beta since August, allows drag-and-drop editing of templates, and permissions systems to enable semi-private blogs. It also eliminates the requirement to republish changed content, which has been a source of frustration for some Blogger users.

In a posting on the official Blogger blog, programmer Pete Hopkins noted that changing existing users onto the new platform would take some effort. "It’ll still take a bit more transition time to move everyone from the old version to the new," he wrote. Users need to register for a Google account to use the enhanced service.

Once that transition is completed, further feature additions are likely. "We'll add to it in the future, now that we have a new, stable, powerful infrastructure to work with," Hopkins said.
