Hynix unveils world's fastest RAM in time for Vista

Your IT - Home IT

South Korea-based DRAM manufacturer Hynix has unveiled 800MHz DDR2 memory sticks, offering a performance boost to support Microsoft's resource hungry Vista operating system.

Based on a 60 nano-metre fabrication process, the new technology will allow Hynix to manufacture 2GB PC2-6400 memory modules - allowing for consumer systems with 8GB of RAM. The new memory modules will go into volume production in the first half of 2007.
"Our 60nm process has been highly stable, even under worst case conditions," said Hong Sung Joo, Hynix VP of Product Development. "Additionally the 3D transistor architecture and triple-metal layer process significantly improves speed-power characteristics of the components."

Using the 60nm process, manufacturing costs are expected to halve compared to the 80nm technologies.
