Poll shows encouraging signs for Vista take-up

Your IT - Home IT

While it’s still early days, a poll of Internet users shows that about one in three intend to upgrade to Windows Vista in 2007. The results are in stark contrast to the predictions of analyst groups who are largely pessimistic about the prospects for Vista in the coming year.

From early indications of the iTWire poll, which asked “Will you upgrade to Vista in 2007?” 33% answered yes.

The result contrasts with predictions from Gartner which has just 4.9% of consumers and 4.2% of businesses upgrading next year. UK based group Ovum was more bullish, predicting that 15% of businesses will upgrade to Vista in 2007.

Of course, consumers buying a PC after January 30, 2007 will have no option because their new machine will be pre-loaded with Vista.

It is not known how many users are holding off from buying new PCs until Vista has been launched. Although users buying Vista capable PCs now can generally receive an upgrade to Vista for the cost of shipping, many may prefer to wait until they can get a Vista pre-installed machine rather than go through the upgrade process.
