Google code search for code cutters

Your IT - Home IT

Google can't seem to stop itself from organizing things into searchable format. The latest effort is a service called Google Code Search, which allows programmers to sift through billions of lines of indexed code to search for reusable blocks or examples of code from a particular programming language.

According to Google the service is designed to help anyone from the computer science student or hobbyist right up to professional developers find answers to programming problems.

The new Google service enables coders to search for samples and actual reusable coding blocks of a designated programming language solving a particular problem.

Google takes care to inform searchers wherever possible of the licensing agreements in place for blocks of code in the search results and allows coders to search by software license as well as language.

The new service can be found at google.com/codesearch
