Net will keep politicians honest says Google boss

Your IT - Home IT

Lying politicians - and that's just about all of them - had better watch out. Within five years the internet is going to prevent them from putting one over on their constituencies. This is the claim of Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, made in an interview with the Financial Times newspaper this week.

According to Schmidt, within five years voters would be able to go online and in real time use truth predictor software to check every claim made by a politician to see if it was correct.

Schmidt believes that ageing politicians still haven't come to terms with the potential the internet holds to affect the outcome of elections, with voters constantly online. He predicted that the internet will force politicians to adapt as much as TV did.

While in Britain, Schmidt was pushing the message to both sides of the political spectrum that the internet was democratising access to information. He met with the Prime Minister Tony Blair and the opposition Conservative Party.
