Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Nokia has launched a web site/service to enable end users to configure web content of their choice for deliver to their mobile phones, of any brand and for information providers - bloggers, site owners, etc - to optimise their content for delivery to cellphones.
"Immediate access to information is expected by people today, thus we wanted to make it easy for everybody, from an individual blogger to a web service provider, to automatically have mobile access to website content," said Dieter May, vice president and head of Nokia Emerging Business Unit.
"We wanted WidSets (www.widsets.com) to be fun to use, so we based the user interface on great-looking and dynamic mini-applications called widgets that automatically receive updates from websites that people normally visit several times a day," May said. "Whenever the information on a community, blog, or news service is updated, the widget notifies the user about it, so that the information can be viewed right away, regardless of where the user is located. And if users can't find their favourite Internet service on WidSets, they can easily create and publish widgets themselves, and share the content with others."
For end users WidSets delivers content from websites of their choice direct to their java-enabled cellphones using RSS. Bloggers can "easily turn [a] blog RSS feed into a mobile version that can reach readers when and where they need it most - on the go," according to Nokia. Site owners can "create and publish a mobile widget for [a] website with just a few clicks [making] it easy for visitors...to get easy access...from their cell phones."
