Vista versions all on one DVD

Your IT - Home IT

Microsoft will ship all versions of its new Windows operating system Vista on a single DVD, enabling users to upgrade between the six versions of Vista by purchasing a product key from a reseller's website.

The Vista disc will contain a feature called Windows Anytime Upgrade, allowing users to click on an icon directing them to a reseller site.

While having all versions of Windows on a single disc will significantly reduce packaging and distribution costs for Microsoft, there has no indication from Microsoft of price reductions for users upgrading between versions.

Currently, in the US Vista will cost between US$199 and US$399 for full versions, while upgrades will between US$100 and US$259. Users can also expect to pay those prices on top of the cost of hardware when they buy computers with Vista pre-installed.
