Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
AOL and Intel have launched a version of the AOL video service customised for Intel Viiv-based PCs that enables the video content to be easily displayed on a TV screen and control and selection to be made via a TV remote control.
AO Video (http://video.aol.com) is billed as "a one-stop, high-quality entertainment destination to find, watch and share millions of free streaming and pay-to-download video programs from across the Web, broadcast and cable television, and entertainment." It offers more than 45 channels of on-demand video programming featuring original, licensed and branded content, downloadable movies from major studios and a searchable index containing "millions of videos from across the Web".
AOL and Intel have developed a new user interface which, they say, helps a consumer decide whether they want to search the entire video library, browse a video category, or take advantage of AOL's recommended viewing list. Unlike the current AOL video service, which is access through a standard web browser, these function can be performed through a remote control.
Other AOL services available on Intel Viiv technology-based PCs include AOL Radio and AOL Pictures, a free online digital photo service. AOL Music Now, AOL's web-based digital music store and subscription service will be added in the near future.
To coincide with the launch of the new service, AOL has opened a new Digital Lifestyle Web site (http://digital-lifestyle.aol.com) "designed to educate consumers about digital media consumption in the home and on the go for devices and technology platforms related to video, music, photos and home networking."
It features "articles and video clips from leading consumer technology experts, free instructor-led online classes, buying guides for technology products and other information resources."
AOL has also launched an open developer initiative for AOL Video Search. It provides a set of open APIs and tools enabling developers to incorporate results from AOL Video Search into third-party applications and Web sites. The new tools also enable content owners to easily submit video feeds to the AOL Video Search index, making their content discoverable in real-time across the AOL Video Search network.
