Although Virgin Mobile’s advertising campaign featuring Doug Pitt has been plastered all over our TV screens, buses and other advertising mediums for the last couple of months, Virgin isn’t the only telco bringing celebrities to Australia, with Vodafone getting in on the action too.
While it appears that Vodafone is “only” emailing its Vodafone and 3 customers about its celebrity, making this advertising effort much more low-key than Virgin Mobile’s, it’s still an intriguing promotion that is sure to get at least some Apple fans (that are also Voda customers) highly excited.
The “celebrity” in question is Guy Kawasaki, the “original chief evangelist of Apple”, with Vodafone noting Mr K is “now a Silicon Valley venture capitalist” who “remains an Apple Fellow” – and he’s coming to Sydney, Australia.
Vodafone asks “Ever wondered what it was like when Apple was just starting out? Or what Steve Jobs was really like?” and states that “now you can find out from the man who was there”.

What do you have to do to enter this competition if you’re a Voda or 3 customer?
It’s pretty simple: you have to “come up with the most creative answer to this question in 50 words or less: If you could ask Guy Kawasaki one question, what would it be?”.
Details are all here at this part of Vodafone Australia’s site, and if you win, you and your plus-one will “meet Guy Kawasaki in an enchanting Sydney lunch”.
Vodafone says that “winners will be judged on their creativity”, and that you must at least be an Australian resident to win (which would rule out tourists who are using a Vodafone SIM) – and if you win, you’ll have to make your own way to the event.
The lunch will be for one hour, with Guy, where he’ll “talk about his 12 lessons learnt from Apple, enchantment and innovation today”, and where you’ll get to ask your “winning question to Guy during the day”.
Although transportation is, is aforementioned, not provided, “lunch and drinks” are provided, with the event set to take place at a mysterious “secret Sydney CDB location which will be revealed at the time winners are announced” on Sunday the 23rd of September, 2012.
The competition started on the 12th September and ends on the 18th September, 2012, so if you’re an Apple fan, a Vodafone or 3 Mobile customer, and a creative type who can think up an interestingly intriguing and curiously cunning question… it’s time to stop reading, start writing and entering your question at Vodafone’s site here.
Good luck!
