ISP Internode has connected its first NBN customer in Adelaide.

A house in the Lakeside development is the first home in Adelaide to be connected to an Internode NBN service.

Michael Siddall and Jacinta Warren chose a 50Mbps service from Internode for their Lakeside home.

Mr Siddall said the service was eight times faster than the ADSL service at his previous home.

"Last night, I used it to download TechNet ISO (disk) images for some virtual machines I’m building.

"Normally that would take me about three or fours hours to do as these are 3.3-gigabyte files.

"With the NBN, I was able to download four of them in half an hour.

"That obviously saves me a lot of time, so it’s definitely a good thing for my work.

"Another benefit is it’s really fast at streaming tech videos about how to do things. The video is smooth and seamless - it works really well.

The couple report significantly improved speeds when using Internet banking and Facebook, gaming ("the NBN makes a real difference"), and during general web browsing.

Just over a year ago, Internode connected its first NBN customer in Willunga, South Australia, one of the NBN's five 'first release' sites.
