Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
AT&T says users will be able to access the service from "nearly any broadband connection, at home, work (employers will be pleased!) or on the road." AT&T has 7.8 million DSL customers.
The service expands upon an earlier agreement that enables AT&T to offer MobiTV to customers via AT&T Wi-Fi hot spots. The new service will initially have about 20 channels of live and made-for-broadband television content spanning national news, sports, entertainment and music videos from "top artists". The initial channel line up will include Fox News, Bloomberg, Oxygen, History Channel, Comedy Time, Toonworld, Maxx Sports and the Weather Channel. The initial service will cost a flat $US20 per month
Access will be via a browser based interface that AT&T promises will offer fast channel-changing, full-screen functionality and quality video playback.
MobiTV, based in California, claims to be the first mobile television and digital radio service provider for cellular, WiFi and broadband enabled devices worldwide. Its service is available in the US through Sprint, Cingular, Alltel; in the UK through 3 and Orange UK; and in Canada through Bell Canada, Rogers and Telus Mobility; and other regional carriers around the world. The company was founded in 1999.
