iTWire UPDATE - it's FREE!

AVG's MultiMi aims to provide a single interface to multiple social media services, much as multi-protocol instant messaging applications such as Adium can connect simultaneously to multiple IM services.

MultiMi works with email (POP3 or IMAP, including Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo accounts), Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Picasa, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google Reader, Pocket, Box.net, and other services.

A new version of the free program has been released following a beta test period.

"The post-beta MultiMi incorporates a year's worth of performance enhancements and feature requests we received from many engaged and active social media consumers," said Eidan Apelbaum, CEO of Zbang It, creator of MultiMi.

"Our testers did a great job providing us exactly the feedback our developers needed for us to evaluate, update and elevate the platform as compared to competing solutions."

Apart from support for additional services, the new release features user interface changes, and the ability to edit and save photos.

The program now uses Chromium as its browser rather than Internet Explorer, a change that company officials say has helped improved performance.

MultiMi uses AVG's LinkScanner technology to protect users against malicious links.

"With MultiMi, AVG offers users the tools to get the most out of Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, LinkedIn and more," said JR Smith, CEO of AVG Technologies.

"Whether they want to post commentaries, tweet news, share holiday photos, or post images of a new fascination, MultiMi makes the process fast and safe.

"With AVG's LinkScanner security technology, MultiMi protects a user's personal information from the worst of the Web's threats."

MultiMi is a Windows-only program.
