iTWire UPDATE - it's FREE!

If you need a new ADSL wireless router but you're also expecting to move to an NBN fibre connection within the device's lifetime, Billion thinks it has the answer.

The Billion BiPAC 7800 VDOX and 7800 VDPX routers combine an ADSL2+ modem with a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port, so they can be used immediately with an ADSL service (or for that matter with a BigPond or OptusNet cable modem, though that would be a waste of the ADSL2+ support), and later with an NBN fibre connection.

Raaj Menon, CEO of Billion importer PCRange, said "In pre-release field tests, we recorded LAN-to-WAN throughput tests as fast as 400 megabits per second while the new routers comfortably recorded downstream speeds of 100Mbps from the NBN." He also told iTWire that it was Billion's first major product launch in two years.

Other features include dual-band Wireless N, Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, a USB port for sharing storage devices, a DLNA media server, VoIP support (including failover to a PSTN line), and easily adjustable SNR to maximise the ADSL sync speed while maintaining a stable connection.

The VDOX model adds support for IPSec VPNs.

The routers are due to ship in August, and will be priced at $229 for the VDPX and $249 for the VDOX.
