Check Point's ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall 2013 delivers unusually broad functionality for a free product.

Free antivirus products aren't uncommon. Several security vendors (not to mention Microsoft) offer them, usually alongside more broadly featured versions that come at a price.

ZoneAlarm Free 2013

Check Point claims ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall 2013 is "the most complete free Internet security solution for consumers." In addition to the ability to scan, detect and remove malware, the package includes a two-way firewall to block external attacks and attempts to send data to malicious servers.

Like other vendors, Check Point uses data collected from its users (60 million in the case of ZoneAlarm) to verify the safety of programs.

ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall 2013 goes a step further with an 'OSFirewall' feature that is said to monitor behaviours within a PC in order to detect and prevent attacks that can avoid traditional security tools.

Other features include automatic warnings when malicious files are downloaded, identity theft protection, blocking of spyware distribution and phishing sites, and online backup.
