iTWire UPDATE - it's FREE!

Facebook has launched an Antivirus Marketplace, initially offering products from Microsoft, McAfee, Trend Micro, Sophos, and Symantec and has incorporated their malicious URL databases into its own URL blacklist system.

Announcing the move, Facebook said: "At the moment, less than four percent of content shared is spam compared to nearly 90 percent of email) and we are looking forward to making even more progress in the future."

The Facebook Antivirus marketplace is accessible from the Facebook Security Page, or directly. Facebook users will be able to select a free download from any of the anti-virus partners. Offers vary from six-month licenses to full versions.

The partners in the Antivirus Marketplace have also joined the Facebook Security Blog, "where they will provide important educational materials to help those who use our site keep themselves, and their data, safe." Facebook says.

Trend Micro said that it would also "promote and provide security education which will inform of the latest threat developments through on-going contributions to Facebook's Security page , e-guides, blog posts, quizzes, videos and more."
