Lexar claims industry first with 256GB CompactFlash card

Your IT - Home IT

Fed up with changing your camera's memory card? How does a quarter of a terabyte sound?

Lexar officials say the guaranteed minimum transfer speed of 60MBps makes the new Lexar Professional 400x CompactFlash cards suitable for 1080p video and taking photos in quick succession.

The cards come in 64GB, 128GB and - in an industry first according to the officials - 256GB versions. The smaller two go on sale this month for $316 and $537.50 respectively, with the 256GB card to follow by midyear.

"More professional photographers and enthusiasts are embracing the fact that they can capture high-quality images and HD video with their digital SLR. As a result, they're shooting longer and longer, and need a storage solution that won't interrupt the creative process," said Manisha Sharma, Lexar's director of product marketing for cards.

"The new capacities of the Lexar Professional 400x CF card empower photographers to just keep shooting, without the need to change cards or risk missing once-in-a-lifetime shots or footage."

The cards include a copy of the Image Rescue program to help recover photos in the event of card corruption or mistaken erasure.
