iPod for cars soon to be the standard

The concept of recorded music in cars is nothing new as we've had 8-track, cassette and CD players in automobiles for decades. However, with the anouncement that three major car manufacturers intend to make their car stereo systems iPod compatible, portable entertainment has reached a new height.
According to Apple, new agreements with General Motors, Ford and Mazda will lead to more than 70% of US made cars with iPod comaptability built in.

Unlike the car maunfacturers, Apple iPod is a business that is growing and the US auto manufacturers want to cash in on that before they go belly up.

The iPod lends itself particularly well to moving vehicle situations, leaving behind the necessity of storing and fiddling with discs and casettes. One iPod can store as many songs as many CDs and can be accessed far more easily.

To date, iPod has only been compatible with the systems of some higher end car models, such as Honda, That is set to change.
