Sensis trials SMS search simplifier

Your IT - Home IT

Sensis is to use Broad Investments MTX subsidiary's Pocket Portal mobile phone application to improve the user interface to its SMS-based directory search service.

At present the Sensis service allows consumers to text a message, in a specified format to 191SMS (191 767) to retrieve personal and business listings, movie information and surf, snow and weather reports.

MTX has entered into a trial with Sensis to produce a Java and Symbian based mobile phone application that can be downloaded onto the customer's mobile phone to make access to the service more user-friendly. According to Broad investments, "The MTX Pocket Portal engine will increase revenue for Sensis through increased uptake and ease of use of the service."

MTX will supply its Pocket Portal product, which is an online web authoring environment, for Java and Symbian clients, under exclusive license from UK based Amplefuture. It is claimed to be compatible to over 160 mobile phone models. The product was used as the engine for MTV and Motorola's 'Mobbed' product, named 'Best Mobile Phone Application' in the Asian Mobilenews awards.

Broad Investments says it is finalising several other opportunities for Pocket Portal in the Asia Pacific region.
