Symantec's 'Beyond the PC' initiative, something that helps keep a PC security company relevant in what Apple has called the 'post PC era', has just celebrated its one-year anniversary, with new partnerships and new betas.
With the tech world's gizmos and gadgetry well along the evolutionary path to ubiquitous connectivity, it's no longer just PCs that need protecting from nefarious online threats.
Thus, Symantec and other Internet security vendors have been broadening their offerings beyond PCs to include other devices, naturally including smartphones and tablets.
Well, it's now been a year since Symantec launched its 'Norton Everywhere' initiative, taking security 'beyond the PC' boundaries most have been used to.
And, to accompany the one-year anniversary, Symantec has ensured some news to go along with the occasion, 'introducing new partnerships and product updates that help deliver Norton protection across locations, devices and digital experiences'.
Those new partners include OneWiFi, Hi-Tech Sound and The Wi-Fi Company in the US, KDDI Corporation in Japan, and T-Mobile Austria in, well'¦ Austria, with Symantec stating that these new partners are now 'leveraging Norton mobile solutions to protect their customers wherever they go'.
But naturally, that's not all. More importantly, Symantec has announced 'updates to Norton Mobile Security and a new mobile application for Norton Online Family users.'
Janice Chaffin, Symantec's Group President of its Customer Business Unit, said: 'Launching Norton Everywhere a year ago has been an important investment in the future of our Consumer Business.
We've taken a unique approach to developing a post-PC era Norton that includes introducing new mobile products, expanding our current products with mobile apps and combining our technology with mainstream consumer brands to protect more people in more places.
'The market reception has been highly positive and in the coming year we'll continue creating partnerships and technologies that will bring the most trusted name in PC security to mobile and Wi-Fi users all over the world.'
Maria Zesch, T-Mobile Austria's Marketing Director added that: 'As Android devices become increasingly popular, there is a greater chance they could be targeted by cybercriminals or more commonly, lost or stolen.
'We are delighted to now offer T-Mobile Austria customers the ability to secure their smart phones or tablets from physical and online crime with the powerful protection of Norton security.'
Symantec has also taken its 'Norton Mobile Security' software to 'select retailers worldwide, including a significant presence in Japan with 17 of the country's major retail chains offering the product.'
So, what are the product and technology updates that Symantec has delivered for various Norton products?
