Internode expands DSLAM network thanks to Blackspot backhaul

Your IT - Home IT

Internode has taken advantage of new competitive fibre backhaul capacity installed under the Regional Backbone Blackspots Program to offer ADSL services via it own DSLAM in Victor Harbor, and has similar plans for several other towns.

It said the upgrade would enable it to offer customers previously served by resold ADSL services data quotas up to 1TB rather than 200GB, access speeds up to 24Mbps rather than 8Gbps and its recently launched FetchTV service.

Internode has also taken advantage of RBBP backhaul capacity to upgrade the link serving its DSLAM in Mount Barker and plans to offer broadband from its own DSLAMs in the nearby town of Strathalbyn and in Goolwa. It says The RBBP infrastructure "also enables Internode to examine the feasibility of providing services in several other towns in the region."

The new RBBP fibre-optic cable connects Victor Harbor, Strathalbyn and Goolwa with Mt Barker, where it interconnects with a major backhaul communication link between Adelaide and Victoria.

Internode managing director Simon Hackett said: "The competitively-priced backhaul service created by the RBBP enables Internode to deliver its best performance and most affordable ADSL2+ plans to the people of Victor Harbor, Strathalbyn and Goolwa. The great news is that this is just the start. Internode fully expects to undertake more ADSL2+ deployments in other parts of the overall RBBP project area: This is just what we've committed to so far."

In addition to the Victor Harbor RBBP project, Internode is already deploying its own DSLAM equipment at other RBBP locations including Alice Springs, Darwin, Nightcliff and Palmerston in the NT.
