Your IT - Home IT

Apple Australia has announced its iPad 2 pricing at last, at 11.43pm on Tuesday the 22nd of March, at prices of between $50 and $100 cheaper than the iPad 1. Read on!

Any doubts that the iPad 2 was going to be delayed for any countries beyond Japan can now be put to rest, with Australia firmly among the 25 countries definitely getting the iPad 2 this Friday as confirmed in a media release.

In addition, prices are between $50 to $100 lower than last year, with Apple chopping the most off its more expensive models, and price cuts smallest at the 16GB level.

With basically everything already known about the iPad 2 except the local pricing, let's dive right in.

In Australian dollars, including GST, the Wi-Fi iPad 2 at 16GB is $579, the 32GB is $689 and the 64GB model is $799.

The iPad 2 with 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS at 16GB is $729, the 32GB is $839 and the 64GB is $949.

The compares with 2010 iPad 1.0 pricing of $629, $759 and $879 for the Wi-Fi models, and $799, $928 and $1049 or the 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS models, in their respective sizes, making the price cuts easy to see.

In addition, the iPad 2's Smart Cover pricing has also been unveiled, with the polyurethane models selling for $45, and the leather versions selling for $79.

As for the sales starting time, it all starts at 5pm on Friday in Apple's own stores, and in as-yet unspecified 'select authorised resellers', the same timeframe that Apple used in the US.

It guarantees a day of queuing, anticipation, excitement, impatience, curiosity over how many resellers are in the line, news coverage and camera crews, security guards and more in place to handle the expected crowds.
