As has been speculated over the past two weeks, Apple Computer has defeated the combined might of the world's largest record companies and forced them to adhere to its pricing policy. And that policy spells good news for music consumers, who can continue to download music from Apple's online music store, iTunes, for 99c a track.

binocsThe astounding win over companies including Universal, Warner Music, SonyBMG and EMI, demonstrates just how much power Apple now has in the online music space, where, with 80% of the market, it is almost as dominant as Microsoft is in the PC space. The music companies had huffed and puffed themselves up and even threatened to stop supplying music to iTunes - as if!

The word was that in the end they caved in and, now, it's official the 99c flatrate download is here to stay - at least for the time being.
