CIO confidence; a dead cat bounce?

At a time when banks are shedding IT roles by the dozen, it seems counter-intuitive that 83 per cent of the nation’s chief information officers should report they are confident about the future of their business to the extent that 45 per cent expect to hire IT staff in the first six months of the year. The question remains – is this a dead cat bounce?

Will Apple ‘soon’ be offering free iPad engraving?

Your IT - Home IT

A report has come out quoting a supposedly reliable source within Apple that free iPad engraving, as it has done with iPods, before the end of the year – just in time to help spice up iPad sales during the all-important holiday season.

Online news site “Erictric” has come forth with the unconfirmed news that Apple will be offering free iPad engraving before year’s end.

Eric Calouro from Erictric claims to have a source within Apple “who legitimately holds a position at the company and has asked to remain anonymous” that has fed him this information.

The anonymous source told Calouro that: “From what I understand, Apple’s going to be offering customers the option to get their iPads engraved just before the Holidays roll around”, and that the iPad engraving will “…most likely [be] free, especially since they’ll be trying to sell a ton more of the tablets during the holiday season.”

The article comes with the usual caveats that the information is yet to be confirmed and might not even happen, but given the popularity of iPod engraving, something that’s not available for the plastic backed iPhone, it certainly seems to make sense – especially if it’s going to be an optional freebie.

After all, not everyone that got an iPod chose to have it engraved, and to take advantage of the option you needed to order from the Apple store and then wait for delivery, as opposed to going straight to a store, buying an iDevice and immediately taking it away with you.

If there’s stock available, that is. With Apple’s latest products always selling out and problems meeting demand from Apple’s suppliers, who knows if the iPad will have smoothed out its availability issues by the end of the year?

So, for now, this one’s a rumour, but it’d be nice for consumers if it was true.
