Primus offers fixed line 'bucket plans'

Primus Telecom has announced capped fixed line phone plans for residential customers that it claims can provide up to $250 worth of local, national, fixed to mobile and international calls per month.
There are three plans for customers bundling their phone service with Primus' Internet access: a $15 plan that includes $50 worth of local, national, fixed to mobile and international calls; a $35 plan that includes $120 worth of calls; a $65 plan that includes $250 worth of calls.

The value of calls is based upon Primus's current rates: 17 cent local calls, national calls at 17 cents a minute, and international call charges based on Primus's Name-a-Nation rates. For customers who take only the fixed phone service from Primus the rates are $25 for $50 worth of calls, $45 for $120 worth of calls, and $75 for $250 worth of calls.

None of the plans require any lock-in contract and all exclude line rental which Primus charges at $29.95 a month. Premium rate calls and calls to 13 numbers are excluded.

The move follows Telstra revealing last week that it is planning a capped offering to select fixed line customers, a  move widely seen as Telstra's first specific move against the growing army of VoIP service providers offering cheap calls.
