Your IT - Home IT

Skype has unveiled plans to offer a videoconferencing service and has made a beta version available for up to five Windows users.

Announcing the service at a press conference in Sydney last week, Dan Neary, Skype's Asia Pacific VP said "This has been one of our most requested features over the last few years."

He added: "We are limiting the number of participants during the beta phase to five users, but once we come out of beta we expect to expand the number of users. Neary said: We intend to make it a paid for product'¦We have not yet set prices, some of that will depend on the feedback we get.

According to a blog posting on Skype's web site "Group video calling is just one in a set of new premium features you'll see us roll out during 2010. We haven't set prices for these premium features yet, but rest assured that we're still absolutely committed to bringing you free voice and two-way video calling."

It added that group video calling would be available for Mac users later in 2010.
