OzHub, the Macquarie Telecom-led cloud computing alliance, has come down firmly on the side of Optus over the copyright controversy surrounding Optus TV Now, warning that any moves to change the law "risk branding Australia a global luddite state."
A broadband business boom has created a simultaneous jobs boom with the South Australian based carrier looking to fill 30 vacancies.
Internode general manager Pat Tapper said customer demand was
“explosive”. “Normally Christmas and New Year is a quiet period, but
our volumes of new business have set records,” he said. “We’ve
appointed about 30 new people in the past few months and we still have
30 job vacancies to fill, as soon as we can find the right people.”
Internode's head count will top 200 within the next few weeks once all
current vacancies are filled. The company, which had about 100
employees just 12 months ago, expects more new jobs by mid year.
Internode, which was the first provider to offer ADSL2+ services, has
seen unprecedented demand this year, especially for its ADSL2+
broadband plans. The company was on track for $50m turnover at December
2005.
Internode is recruiting new staff across the board, with a particular
focus on customer service roles such as Help Desk, Sales and Accounts.
Mr Tapper said Internode’s priority was to maintain its customer
service quality during this rapid growth phase. “We’re hiring people to
keep our customer service up,” he said.
As well as broadband Internet access, Internode offers the NodePhone
Voice over Broadband service, private national networks for companies
and has introduced broadband to regional areas including the Coorong
and the Yorke Peninsula. It has also provided the South Australian
Government with Internet access services for more than a
decade.
