Visiting academics get easier Internet access in PNG

Your IT - Home IT

The first university in Papua New Guinea is set to join eduroam, a system that simplifies Internet access for visitors.

eduroam is a federated roaming access system that provides students, researchers and staff with Internet connectivity according to their 'home' credentials when visiting another participating institution.

Three regional eduroam confederations cover Europe, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific.

The latest country to join eduroam is Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Thanks to the efforts of AARNet (Australian Academic and Research Network), Queensland University of Technology (QUT), and Open Systems Consultants, eduroam access is being set up at the Divine Word University (DWU), Medang.

Visitors from other participating institutions will be able to easily connect to the Internet via local wireless networks and PNGARNet (Papua New Guinea Academic and Research Network).
