Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Multicultural media company, Global Net Media, has launched what it believes to be to be Australia's first commercial IPTV, over the Telstra ADSL network in conjunction with wholesale ISP, ispOne.
Global Net Media will target Australia's 40,000 expatriate Sri Lankans with a bundle of ispONE's broadband ADSL, fixed line and VoIP services with programmes from Sri Lanka's television channels, including Sirasa TV, Shakthi TV and MTV, .Packages will start at $59 per month for a mix of entertainment, news, current affairs and children's programs. The channels will be available daily from 6pm to 12am (AEST).
Director of Global Net Media, Shanaka Desilva said: "For the first time the Sri Lankan community living in Australia and New Zealand can access a total turnkey solution for their daily communication and entertainment needs and experience their native culture, music, sports and entertainment in the comfort of their living rooms." He said Global Media Net intended to expand its IPTV content to cater to other ethnic groups such as Vietnamese, Indian, Italian and Greek.
Zac Swindells, managing director of ispOne said that customers would need a 1.5Mbps service in order to satisfactorily view the content live, but the set-top box provided with the service had the ability to cache content downloaded over lower speed lines.
