Optus opens own mobile apps store

Your IT - Home IT

Optus has opened a mobile applications store that gives its mobile customers one-stop shop access to a number of other mobile applications stores.

The store provides access to Symbian, Android, Blackberry, Windows Media and Java applications. According to Mark Mulder, general manager of Optus content and portals, there are close to 1000 applications available at launch.

Mulder claimed that: “Optus is the first Australian operator to give customers access to an application store with a range of categories, across a multitude of genres. It allows every customer with a data enabled handset to pick and choose an app that suits them, and with one click, the freedom to be charged automatically via their mobile bill."

The app fee can be charged to postpaid accounts, deducted from prepay credit, or charged to a credit card. Categories available are: games, utilities, entertainment, music, social networking, finance, sports, business, lifestyle, productivity, education, books, weather, navigation, health & fitness, medical, themes, photography, news and reference.

Access is via the APP Store icon in Optus Zoo or by SMSing ‘APP’ to 966.
