The Terms of Use Agreement for every Xbox Live account include very clear language that the console must not be modified in any way. It would seem that those who chose to ignore this directive (or never bothered to know that it existed) now have a brick where their games console used to be.
Typically, these now-rejected users had modified their console to play pirated games. No more.
Thus far, according to the source it appears that the account terminations are confined to North America, but there's probably no reason why it won't spread to the rest of the world.
"Our office has gone to hell," says the source. "People have been calling in around the clock and most of them are screaming teenagers who don't understand the terms of use that comes with the console they bought."
On another report a commenter notes that a friend of theirs had a UK machine disconnected; running what had previously been thought to be an undetectable firmware modification. Perhaps not!
Everyone is suggesting that owners of modified Xbox 360 units NOT log in to Xbox Live until after the Christmas break when all this should have blown over. Unless, of course it's a long-term disconnection project.
We wait with bated breath.
