Pacific Internet to move Sydney data centre to Global Switch

Your IT - Home IT

ISP Pacific Internet has announced plans to relocate its Sydney data centre from its Underwood Street office to the facility operated by Global Switch in Ultimo over six months starting in February next year. The 29,000 square metre centre, built at a cost of around $160 million in the converted NSW Government Printing Office, has remained largely empty since it opened in August 2002. Jason Sinclair, Pacific Internet's IT operations manager, said: "As a growing business focused service provider we're beginning to outgrow our current Sydney environment...To ensure minimal customer and network disruption, we'll gradually move our Sydney based data centre to Global Switch's state-of-the-art facility in Ultimo over a six-month period. During this time both data centres will run simultaneously for complete redundancy. Sydney is Pacific Internet's largest data centre. It has additional data centres in Melbourne, Newcastle and Brisbane plus equipment in Perth and Adelaide. "We're confident the disruption will be minimal and we look forward to continuing to provide our business customers with an extremely reliable colocation and network service," said Sinclair.
